Housing financier Shelter Afrique launched its 285 low-cost housing units in Athi River, a boost to the quest for affordable housing under the Big Four Agenda by the Government.
The project which cost 355 million shillings is the second phase of a housing project at Riverview Estate, in Athi River.
Kenya housing sector experiences a shortage of over 1.5 million units something which has recently seen developers respond through various ways in a bid to close the demand gap that exists.
The developments by Shelter Afrique in partnership with Karibu Homes Parktel now brings the total number of housing units developed by the partnership since 2015 to 569 at a total cost of 667 million shillings with Shelter Afrique Managing Director Andrew Chimphondah citing that they are determined in meeting the housing demand.
On the other hand, the government aims to collect data through Boma Yangu portal that will be of use in the time of planning and the allocation of Government’s affordable housing.
More than 100000 people have so far registered for consideration once the government houses are complete.
