Twiga Foods has entered into a distribution agreement with e-commerce leader Jumia for the delivery of fresh and processed food to the client’s residence across Nairobi. The partnership will ease Jumia shoppers the burden of visiting stores as the farm’s fresh products will be delivered at their doorstep.
Products in the list of delivery include bundled fresh fruit and vegetables and non-perishable consumer foods (Unga, milk, etc.). With the current situation of the pandemic that has hit the country, the “Freshi Bundle” is expected to be most preferred as it consists of a 28kg of fruit going for Ksh.1925 and delivered for free.
The partnership will be a lifesaver as movements in the country have been restricted in efforts to curb the spread of the deadly disease.
“Our partnership with Twiga Foods will allow customers to shop on Jumia for their fruits and vegetables. They will also get same-day free delivery on the platform in Nairobi and will save customers money – as Twiga cuts out the middlemen by buying directly from farmers and FMCG manufacturers across the country,” said Jumia Kenya’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Sam Chappatte. “The service will be dubbed ‘Jumia Freshi powered by Twiga,’
Consumers are assured of their health as Twiga Food sources the foods from more than 15,000 producers and deliver over 5,000 orders to retailers in a day.
Therefore, with the partnership of the two giant companies, Nairobi residents rest assured of not only timely delivery service for foodstuff, but also of freshness and quality of what they get.
The existing Twiga depots in Dagoretti, Donholm, Embakasi, Thome, Ruaka, Kaloleni, Nairobi West, Syokimau, Waiyaki Way, and Kilimani will play a key role in making the process a success.
“This partnership with Jumia is a great milestone for us. It allows us to scale up in terms of products, retailers, and cities served through this platform, as we continue executing our mission to feed and supply Africa’s urban population with traceable, quality and affordable products. Significantly, this partnership ensures that we pass on to our consumers the price benefit of sourcing directly from farmers and manufacturers,” said Peter Njonjo, Twiga Foods Chief Executive Officer, adding that its Twiga Fresh bundle is offering a 50% discount to the prevailing market prices.
