Qatar Airways Unveils Second Destination in Kenya

In a bid to strengthen its feet into the Kenyan airspace, Qatar Airways has unveiled plans to launch direct flights to Mombasa. This emerged in a meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and a delegation from the Qatar government at State House Nairobi.

The flights, that are set to commence in December, will make Mombasa the second destination for the Qatar Airways in Kenya after Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The new development has been hailed has a facilitator to the government’s efforts of positioning Mombasa as a tourism and hospitality hub in the East Africa region.

President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed his gratitude to the Qatar government for the direct flights which will start just two months after Kenya Airways would have started flying to New York, USA.

“We look forward to the maiden flight by Qatar Airways to Mombasa. For us, it is a confirmation of the continued and growing cooperation between our two countries,” said President Kenyatta.

The delegation also revealed that they are working on scheduled Qatar Airway’s direct flights from Italy to Mombasa tapping on the increasing tourists who are interested in exploring the beautiful tropical beaches, coastline as well as Mombasa’s fascinating diverse cultural mix.

Other than the planned flights to Mombasa, the delegation also revealed the willingness os a group Qatar Investors to invest in delivering 100,000 housing units. This will facilitate the realization of President Kenyatta’s promise of affordable housing units as enshrined in the Big 4 Agenda.

The meeting also revealed Qatar’s participation in the Sustainable Blue Economy conference that will be held in Nairobi next month.
