Kenya is among the countries to be removed from the red list by the United Kingdom on September 22, 2021.
In a statement, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Chief executive Dr. Betty Radier while lauding the UK, said progressive initiatives aimed at ensuring the destination remains safe for travelers are to be enhanced.
“This is why in 2020, the government through the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife unveiled the Magical Kenya Tourism and Hospitality protocols reviewed in August of 2021 to ensure that the industry continues to operate safely and that visitors and citizens are protected against the Covid-19 pandemic” Said Radier.
The Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, said on Friday that the ‘traffic light’ system would be replaced with a single red list and with simplified measures.
The UK’s High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott in tweet stated that the UK and Kenya’s partnership had been demanding since the travel ban, but the partnership remains strong.
With the overhaul, travelers from ‘safe’ countries will no longer have to take any test before they get on a flight home from overseas; and, from later in October, only a lateral flow on their second day back in the UK, rather than a costly PCR test.
Pakistan, Turkey, Maldives, Egypt, Oman, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh will be removed from the list.
Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe will remain listed.
