Kenya Airways has introduced new direct flights from Nairobi to Bujumbura. The carrier was in a bid of making it easier for passage traveling to Burundi to experience shorter waiting periods unlike before.
The new route which will be operated by Jambojet on a Bombardier Q400 will play a key role in connecting the European and American services.
Previously, there was a standoff between Kenya and Burundi after Murundi requesting for a bigger plane with business class seats. However, Jambojet said that they had made arrangements to have two new Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft to address the matter.
“This increase to our local and regional Network is part of our strategic intent to expand our footprint across Africa,” KQ group managing director and CEO Sebastian Mikosz said.
The new daily afternoon service will operate between Nairobi and Bujumbura in addition to the current daily tagged morning flight that operates between Nairobi and Bujumbura on the Embraer 190.
The announced new flight will help in boosting trade, tourism, and travel amongst African Community (EAC).
Earlier, the community agreed on the free movement of labor, goods, and services within the community.
