Just a few days after launching new Internet bundles that will see subscribers receive more data at the same rates as before, Airtel Kenya has revealed plans to expand the coverage of its high-speed 4G network to more towns.
The telco’s Managing Director Prasanta Das Sarma revealed their plans to take the 4G network to Kisumu, Nakuru, and Eldoret over the next four months. The telecommunication company had already launched the 4G platform in Nairobi and Mombasa two months ago.
Mr. Sarma noted that the group had recorded increased number of its customers since the launch of the platform in the two major cities. He had that Airtel is now banking on data and voice to establish a constant growth of subscribers.
“All the major towns will be covered, and the process has started, so the next three to four months they should all be covered. We will not stop there but continue to improve services for our customers,” said Mr. Sarma.
He, however, stressed that this would not divert their running efforts to improve the 2G and 3G network platforms which are equally important in sustaining their customers.
“We want to cover more customers, and we want to improve our services,” he added.
According to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK), Airtel has in the recent past recorded the fastest growth in the number of subscribers compared to Telkom Kenya and even market leader Safaricom.
Statistics from the market regulator show that Airtel data users in the country in June last year rose from 8.7 million to 9.7 million equivalent of 11.9 percent.
