The Pride of Africa, Kenya Airways (KQ) is set to launch another direct flight slightly over a fortnight after the first direct flight from Nairobi to USA’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, in New York City.
The National Carrier will on Thursday have its first direct flight from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport.
Following increased demand on the route, the Airways has decidee to fly the route to make it convenient for people interested in investing and working in Somalia.
The daily non-stop flight is expected to boost trade between the two countries with flights scheduled to leave JKIA at 07:40 am and arrive in Mogadishu at 9:55 am.
According to the CEO Sebastian Mikosz, the Horn of Africa nation has seen rise in demand of visits by traders through Nairobi, thus the decision by the carrier to ease travel between the cities with a potential to prompt further commercial activities.
“The addition of this route to our network demonstrates our commitment to improving connectivity on the African continent, while creating new opportunities for corporates, investors, traders and tourists”, the CEO further quoted in his statement.
The Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 which is intended to be flying the route will be departing Mogadishu at 10:45am to arrive back in Nairobi at 1:00pm.
Last year, Somalia rose to the third to buyer of Kenya’s goods as exports to the country increased by 33.5 percent.
This direct flight by Kenya’s National Carrier might see a further lift of the export trade.
