South Africa Eases Visa Requirements for Kenyans
Kenyans studying in South Africa are among the beneficiaries of discussions between the two nations after the East African nation’s proposal of issuance of study visa based on the duration of studies was granted. South Africa authorities also agreed to renew the study visa when the need arises.
The approval also included the provision of Kenyan business people traveling to South Africa with multiple entry visas valid for up to 10 years.
Kenyans who frequently travel to South Africa will be issued three-year multiple entry visas starting from December 1 whereas state officials going on official duty will be granted next three months free visa by South Africa.
The development followed a discussion between Kenya’s Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and South African Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba in South Africa yesterday.
The new arrangement is expected to enhance interaction between Kenya and South Africa through business, trade, and tourism especially with Kenya Airways currently doing three non0 stop daily flights to South Africa.
It is believed that the deliberations were as a result of Kenya’s responsive and straightforward online application for short-term visas for people visiting from all African nations. The Kenyan government has intensified its efforts to fully digitize immigration services include the establishment of the e-passport system.
The development is the progress of previous engagements between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa who have extensively looked into easing travels between the two nations.
The two governments are also in talks on plans to mitigate illegal immigration, human trafficking, and smuggling from any part of the world.
