Safaricom CEO is dead. Confirming this, the company’s Board Chairman Nicholas Nganga said that Collymore passed at his home this morning. Previously, the CEO has been in and out of the country for several months seeking Acute Myeloid Leukemia treatment.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of Robert (Bob) William Collymore CEO Safaricom which occurred at his home,” Nganga said in a statement issued on Monday morning.
The CEO had traveled to the United Kingdom in October 2017 for treatment and later jetted back in the country in July last year to resume duties.
While in the country, he has been visiting Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi for treatment.
“On behalf of the Board of Safaricom, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, staff, partners and the nation at large who he served selflessly with joy,” Nganga said.
Collymore was the Chief Executive Officer of the telecom firm since the year 2010 and has left behind a wife and four children.
