At least 23 Kenyans living in the diaspora have succumbed to the dreaded coronavirus, and dozens are positive with the disease.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs records indicate that 10 of them were living in the US, four in the UK, and two in Switzerland, one in Saudi Arabia and one in Sweden and other 191 have tested positive.
Kenyan Government has embarked on a mission of evacuating Kenyans living in India and China, an ongoing process. According to the latest report from the ministry, one passage which was to travel home from India died at the airport just a few minutes before they got to the aircraft.
The passage was among stranded Kenyans living in the Asian country and was ailing from the disease.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to distress calls of Kenyans in several parts of the world and collaboration with various foreign governments and airlines has facilitated the return of hundreds of Kenyans stranded in several countries,” said the ministry.
160 Kenyans who were living in China also landed in the country on Saturday night.
“Majority of this group are Kenyans impacted by the coronavirus in terms of job losses, students who have completed their studies, business people caught in the lockdown and Kenyans caught on the wrong side of the law in China,” said the ministry.
