Crown Paints Ltd has developed an app that will help its customers select the colors they want for their buildings and also locate the nearest dealer. The online application will also enable customers to estimate the required amount of paint hence guiding their orders.
“Customers using the app can select colors they want from the online portal that allows them to try different paints on a virtual wall. They can also locate the nearest authorized hardware and receive suggestions of trained painters available within their area,” said Group Chief Executive Rakesh Rao.
The company had launched an internal piloting exercise that exposed areas to be upgraded before they officially rolled it out to the public.
“We also introduced a philosophical and emotional way when looking at paints for different rooms. Some colors calm feelings in a sitting room while other colors applied on bedroom walls soothe one to sleep,” added Mr. Rao.
The CEO noted that this would be a game changer in the industry as the choice of colors based on where they will be applied depending on the mood of the customer.
The app has so far attracted nearly 40,000 downloads with contractors, painters and hardware owners identified among the 5,000 regular users.
“We have improved our customer queries’ response time with clients getting an opportunity to directly choose their preferred colors that are made and delivered via their selected Crown Paints distributors,” said Mr. Rao.
The platform allows customers to virtually mix up to 14 different colors and then proceed to make orders for their choices.
The firm, however, noted that it is still working to improve on the app to advance on its features that will attract its customers.
“We are working on a new upgrade where we shall be able to link customers to authorized distributors and painters near them. We are also building our database that will inform future paint making as well as sales to different regions across East Africa based on preference and class,” he said.
