Google Africa is set to give over 30,000 young African developers scholarships and grants to developers. The company move will not only benefit the participant but also help in the reduction of the unemployment rate in the continent. Enlisted developers will become certified on Google’s Android, Web and cloud technologies.

According to Google Kenya Country Manager, Charles Murito, 100,000 Africans are set to benefit from mobile developer training set to be offered. The training will be for the Google Associate Android, Mobile Web, and Associate Cloud Engineer certifications.

“We are committed towards young Africans for future jobs through the LaunchPad Accelerator, and we are offering 30,000 additional scholarship opportunities and 1,000 grants for young developers.

Google partners with, Pluralsight and Andela, through an intensive learning curriculum designed to prepare motivated learners for entry-level and intermediate roles as software developers in these fields” Said Murito

In his statement, he added that all the interested students should tap this golden opportunity by applying before Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

“Google’s certifications are developed around a job-task analysis that test learners for skills employers expect developers to have in these domains.

This scholarship is about preparing the youth for the jobs of tomorrow by equipping them with the right developer skills.

Graduate of the Associate Android Developer certification Adaobi Frank said the training helps her get a job faster than she anticipated.

“Becoming certified can make a meaningful difference to both developers and employers, and we have already seen evidence this. I got a better job that paid me 10X my previous salary after completing her certification,” she said.

“My interview was quicker as my employer was convinced that I was great for the role after she mentioned I was certified,” she added.

The program is expected to deliver more than expected, among it being bridging the unemployment gap in the continent as it will increase the number of employable software developers via the training.
