British High Commissioner Urged Kenyans to Apply for Business Innovation Challenge Before Deadline

British High Commissioner Nic Hailey discussed on the need for the youth, entrepreneurs, and innovators to apply for the Kenya Catalytic Jobs Fund’s Business Innovation Challenge.

Speaking during a radio Interview in one of the local stations yesterday, the commissioner cited that the Business Innovation Challenge targets initiatives that post proof of concept, scalable, innovative, sustainable and have shown substantial impact.

Mr. Hailey while on Capital FM today said that the UK is working in Kenya to support the youth, entrepreneurs, and innovators.

“Companies with great innovation, with the potential to create lots of jobs, who need support to (take their companies) the next level,” he said.

According to the Commissioner, shortlisted applicants will pitch to investors and entrepreneurs’ panel with the successful applicant getting technical assistance and funding worth KSH 13 million each.

The application was open for all Kenyans; also, those with businesses run by or supporting people with disabilities were encouraged to submit their applications before midnight today.

The High Commissioner added that the Kenya Catalytic Jobs Fund is a clear indication of UK support to Kenya’s Innovators and Entrepreneurs, citing the Go Global Africa programme, which helps tech start-ups along with the Africa Prize and leaders in innovation fellowships from the Royal Academy of Engineering as other examples.

He added that the UK had played a significant role in Kenya as it’s the largest foreign cumulative investor in the country and considerable development, partner.

“We are bringing our private and public sector impact together to create more opportunities for Kenyans,” Mr. Hailey said.
