Escape to Nature’s Paradise: Discovering the Stunning Cabins and Breathtaking Views at Shams Camp
Shams camp is a beautiful recreation site on the Hilltop of Kimuka rugged Ridge hills. The camp lies just 500 meters away from the JM. Kariuki Memorial Burial Site. It overlooks the famous Ngong Hills. The name shams camp originate from the Founder’s daughter name Shamila. The daughter suggested it to be named Shams camp after her. The founder started the campsite since he loves being outdoors, he says, “living outside without shoes and electricity gives out a burst of happiness and a chill out atmosphere that he has always wanted.” He started this venture about 5 years ago after working out that he had a piece of land sold to him and trying to explore the idea of outside catering. When he saw the particular piece of land, he was seeing himself staying there enjoying the beautiful scenic: from Shams camp, one can see Ngong hills, wind mills propelling wind energy and a view of areas surrounding Ngong hence he thought of coming up with an eco-friendly campsite. The founder is Simon Muracia who has been leaving in the United Kingdom for the last 29 years. He loves going out and one of his hobbies is camping. Camping makes it more comfortable for him to chill-out and been able to read a book now and then. When he goes camping, he loves the authenticity of it, just been able to make food from whatever we can find and put it in a tin, roast ‘nyama choma’ and the idea of cooking and being together with family and friends and not thinking we need gas etc. just working with what is available. Camping has been phenomenal for him and it works because it just natural, wake up in the morning, go for a run come back and make the breakfast.

Why should I consider camping at Shams camp?
It’s situated in Ngong; the most amazing place, not too far from Nairobi, its authentic, the community is super friendly and the culture is amazing. Ngong is the best place in matters of authenticity and friendliness. The view of Ngong hills and wind power is key in looking at hope of Kenya. It’s a place to internalize ideas and come with ideas that will help you e.g. the camp uses solar energy for power and a refrigerator that uses charcoal to make food cold and a smoking system for smoking meat. The founder loves pets and the site has been a very good place to train dogs for the security firm since it’s the most peaceful place since in the city it wouldn’t work. Dogs are trained for obedience not aggression. There is much more that one can learn from the camp and gain. The camp has its own organic chicken which produce eggs. The site is 500 meters from J.M Memorial site where he met his tragedy, looking at his history and the path he was following empowering young people, he was the future.
