A Greek man is said to have been quite lucky after missing the crashed Ethiopian plane by just 2 minutes.
In his Facebook post, he claims that he would have been the 158th passenger of the people who perished on the Nairobi-bound Boeing plane.
“I was mad because nobody helped me to reach the gate on time,” Antonis Mavropoulos said in a Facebook post entitled “My lucky day.”
According to Athens News Agency, Mavropoulos who is the president of the International Solid Waste Association was bound to attend an annual assembly of the UN Environment Program held in Nairobi #UNEA4.
According to his ticket, he was supposed to board the plane but luckily reached the departure gate 2 minutes after closure forcing him to board an after plane but later prevented to board by staff.
“They led me to the police station of the airport. The officer told me not to protest but to pray to God because I was the only passenger that didn’t board the ET 302 flight that was lost,” read Mavropoulos post.
The act of having been booked a flight and missing the trip made the police want to question him as they said that he was the only person who missed the Boeing 737 which was later reported to have crashed a few minutes later claiming the lives of all the passengers.
“They said they couldn’t let me go before cross-checking my identity, the reason I hadn’t boarded the plane and so forth.”
State-owned Ethiopian Airline had taken delivery of the Boeing 737-800 MAX plane in the year 2015 and had its first flight in October 2018.
Citizens of 35 countries are among the 157 people killed, including 32 Kenyans, 18 Canadians, nine Ethiopians and eight passengers each from China, Italy and the United States.
