The transport sector in the country has been growing steadily over the past few years, recording an 8.8% growth in 2016. The sector has been vital on the country’s’ rapidly-growing economy as envisaged in Kenya vision 2030.
The Government has helped in improving the sector in the country by the expansion of public investments in road, rail transport, safety and regulations. This move saw various international transport companies settle for Kenya also due to its promising economy. Some of the companies include; Uber, Little Cab, Taxify, Delight Cabs, Jatco Travels, Jib Cabs and Pewin cabs.
The company providers have been operating on a fixed transport charge to clients, payable per distance covered. However, this mode of operation might face serious competition as a new US-based cab hailing firm starts its operation in the country.
InDriver has been in operation since 2012, with 24 million users in more 200 cities in 22 countries. The company is set to allow users to negotiate prices with the driver. On the other end, the driver will be able to choose the orders according to profits after negotiations.
According to the company, the drivers who receive notice of ride requests have three choices accept the fare offered, ignore the offer or bargain for a higher price.
Some of the countries the company has been operating include the United States, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Peru, El Salvador, Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Tanzania, South Africa and now in Kenya with the company hoping to register more drivers.
The company is set to allow the drivers to operate without being charged any commission for a year. Also, another key feature is that drivers will not automatically be assigned to riders, unlike other providers.
