US-based Impact Investor Funds Kenya’s Mums Village
A Nairobi based online parenting website known as Mums Village has secured funds from Gray Matter Capita – a US-based impact investor.
Mums Village deals with resourcing, supporting and giving expert advice to Kenyan mothers.
Funds will be used in launching the Mums Village e-commerce platform which will profoundly help in promoting the existing community.
The company was founded by tech entrepreneur Isis Nyong’o in the year 2015 with the idea of helping mothers’ access and share content locally. Isis is also the founder of the advisory firm Ashphalt &Ink.
“Mums Village enables mothers to access and share locally relevant content and products through peer-to-peer communities.
We believe our participation in the accelerator program will enable us to scale and optimize. The target market potential of baby goods in Africa is huge and is projected to reach US$ 5-7 billion by 2021.
This paves the way for us to take the e-commerce route to support our growing community”, said Isis Nyong’o, CEO.
On the other hand, Gray has in the past shown interest in funding for profits social enterprises in markets of India, Africa, Latin America, South East Africa, and the USA.
